Cardi B is what dreams are made of and you’ve got to love her!
Let’s shut the naysayers down once and for all. Cardi became an Instagram celebrity/sensation, posting funny videos where she poetically talked about stripping (which was her previous profession), and produced soundbites such as, “It’s cold outside, but I’m still looking like a totty, because a hoe never gets cold.”
Cardi’s real name is Belcalis Almanzar. She hails from the Bronx in New York City, and her family is of Caribbean descent from Trinidad and Tobago and Dominica. Her parents nicknamed her Bacardi, as a nod to her Caribbean heritage and then named her sister Hennessey. “My sister’s name is Hennessy, right?” as she broke it down to the viewers on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“Everybody used to call me Bacardi, so I always call myself Bacardi, right? And then it was my Instagram name…but for some reason my Instagram keep getting deleted. And I think it was Bacardi that had something to do with it. So, I just shorted it to Cardi B.”
Cardi was casted from a VH1 producer cast on season six of Love & Hip Hop: New York. During her two season stint on the reality series, she released two mixtapes, Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, the latter of which included “Lick” with her now-fiancé Offset.
She was signed by Atlantic Records, quit Love & Hip Hop and released her debut single, “Bodak Yellow.” And she has been soaring in the stratosphere of success and we could not be more happier for her.
She is actually one of the hardest women in ‘show business,’ right now. Don’t hate, appreciate! Cardi currently boasts 10 million followers on Instagram thanks to her videos streaming on social issues. Go Cardi! She is making serious ‘money
moves.’
