In this exclusive Q&A, Johnny Britt shares insights into the making of There Is Nobody, a deeply personal and spiritual 11-song collection that he co-wrote and produced with his wife of 38 years, Arlene Britt.
Q: Johnny, what inspired you to create There Is Nobody?
Johnny Britt: This album has been a dream of mine for quite some time. It’s a labor of love that reflects the shared faith between my wife Arlene and me. We’ve always wanted to create something that not only expresses our love for each other but also our deep connection with God. Writing and producing this album together has been a truly special experience, and I believe that listeners will feel the presence of the Lord as they engage with the music.
Q: Can you tell us about the creative process behind the album?
Johnny Britt: The entire process was very organic. Arlene and I would sit down and let our faith guide the songwriting. We wanted to create songs that were not just musically engaging but also spiritually enriching. The album features me on piano, vocals, and flugelhorn, and we were fortunate to have Nadira Kimberly on violin and Ryan Cross on cello, whose contributions added a soulful and intimate dimension to the music. We recorded the album at Private Island Recording Studios in Hollywood and Silverstorm Recording Studio in Northridge, which gave us the perfect environment to bring our vision to life.
Q: What message do you hope listeners take away from There Is Nobody?
Johnny Britt: My hope is that the lyrics and music on this album will draw listeners closer to God. Whether you’re in a time of prayer, reflection, or simply seeking peace, I believe this album can help usher in the presence of the Lord. The title track, “There Is Nobody,” encapsulates the essence of the album – a recognition that there is nobody like God, and our worship is a response to His unmatched love and grace.

Johnny Britt: Absolutely. The album includes tracks like “Early Will I Seek You,” which is a morning prayer set to music, and “Holy,” a song that exalts the holiness of God. We’ve also included instrumental versions of several tracks, allowing the music to speak on its own without lyrics. Each song on the album is designed to create an atmosphere of worship and reflection.
