New artist DuBois steps boldly onto the music scene with the release of his deeply personal debut single, “So Far Gone,” now streaming on all major platforms.
The Atlanta-based singer, songwriter, and creative channels his raw emotions and real-life experiences into a powerful fusion of R&B, gospel, and soul.

In this exclusive Q&A, DuBois opens up about his journey, what inspired the song, and what listeners can expect from his upcoming EP, “Smile, You’re On Camera.”
Q: “So Far Gone” is such a vulnerable and emotional track. What inspired you to write it?
DuBois:
The inspiration really came from a place of heartbreak — not just romantic, but emotional detachment from people, places, and even versions of myself. I was going through a season where I felt like I had drifted far from who I used to be and what I believed in. Writing “So Far Gone” helped me process that loss and the layers of healing that come with it.
Q: You’ve described this track as “living in isolation” with your collaborators. Why was now the right time to release it?
DuBois:
I think timing is everything. This song has been marinating for a while, and I’ve grown so much in the process. I finally felt like I was in a space emotionally where I could release it without needing to control how it would be received. I just want it to reach the people it’s meant for — and hopefully give them permission to feel, grieve, and heal.
Q: How did your time at Florida A&M University influence your sound?
DuBois:
FAMU was a creative melting pot. Being around so many talented artists and musicians pushed me to think outside the box musically. I studied music formally there, but I also found a deeper appreciation for storytelling, which plays a huge role in how I write songs. I learned how to blend theory with emotion, and that balance is definitely part of my sound.
Q: What does “So Far Gone” say about you as an artist?
DuBois:
It says I’m not afraid to be honest — even when it’s messy. I’m not here to present a polished, perfect version of myself. I want people to know that it’s okay to feel broken sometimes, and that music can be a safe space to explore those feelings. “So Far Gone” is me saying, “This is where I’ve been, and this is what I’ve learned.”
Q: The upcoming EP is titled Smile, You’re On Camera. What’s the meaning behind that?
DuBois:
It’s about how we often perform for the world — smiling, posting, pretending everything’s perfect — while ignoring the things we need to work through internally. The title is a reminder that we’re always being watched, but it also challenges us to ask: Who are we really when no one’s watching? The EP digs into that theme from different angles.
Q: What do you hope people feel when they hear “So Far Gone”?
DuBois:
I hope they feel seen. I hope they feel a little less alone. And I hope it gives them space to sit with their feelings without judgment. Whether you’re healing from heartbreak, loss, or just trying to reconnect with yourself — this song is for you.
Q: Lastly, what’s next for DuBois?
DuBois:
More music. More truth-telling. More vulnerability. Smile, You’re On Camera is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to share the rest of the story.
“So Far Gone” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
