In today’s fast-paced world of cinema, few storytellers can craft films that not only entertain but also inspire and leave a deep spiritual imprint on audiences. Terry Montgomery is one of those rare voices.
Guided by an unwavering faith and an unshakable passion for storytelling, he is in the company of renowned filmmakers such as Academy Award nominee and devout Catholic Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Ted), the Kendrick Brothers (Courageous, War Room), Mel Gibson (The Passion of the Christ), and the Erwin Brothers (Woodlawn, I Can Only Imagine).
In this exclusive interview, Terry shares his journey, creative inspirations, and his mission to bring hope-filled narratives to the big screen.

Q: Terry, you have quite a diverse history. How did this filmmaking journey begin for you?
Terry Montgomery: My journey began with something deeply personal, my love for people and an unshakable faith. From an early age, I understood that stories have a unique power to touch hearts, awaken minds, and heal souls. Storytelling became my way to reach beyond the surface, to inspire hope in the darkest moments, to uplift communities that feel forgotten, and to help people discover their true purpose. Just like Jesus used parables to reveal profound truths, I believe films can do the same today.
This path hasn’t been without trials or sacrifice, but I don’t see it as a struggle. I see it as a walk of faith. Every step I’ve taken has been guided by trust in God’s plan, even when the road ahead was uncertain. That trust fuels my passion to create stories that can change lives.
Q: Your work can be compared to filmmakers like the Kendrick Brothers, Mel Gibson, and the Erwin Brothers. How does it feel to be mentioned in that company?
Terry Montgomery: To be mentioned alongside filmmakers like the Kendrick Brothers, Mel Gibson, and the Erwin Brothers—it’s deeply humbling and almost overwhelming. These are producers who have poured their hearts into creating films that don’t just entertain, but heal, inspire, and carry a message that stays with people long after the credits roll.
For me, it’s about a sacred responsibility, a calling to use storytelling as a way to shine light into the darkest places, to remind people they are not alone, and to breathe hope into hearts that desperately need it.
I will never know the faces or stories of those whose lives this film might touch. I won’t see the tears of healing or the prayers lifted in quiet moments. But I believe God does. And that is enough for me. My job is simply to be faithful, to tell these stories with love and truth, trusting that somewhere, someone’s life will be changed because of it.
Q: Can you share some of the themes or messages that consistently show up in your films?
Terry Montgomery: Absolutely. Forgiveness, redemption, perseverance, and faith are constants in my work. I want people to walk away from my films feeling seen, heard, and encouraged. I also make sure my characters are relatable because I believe authenticity is what makes a story stick.
Q: Many faith-based filmmakers have also crossed into mainstream recognition. Do you see your work bridging that gap?
Terry Montgomery: Absolutely, 100%. Faith-based filmmaking has already shown it can cross over and touch hearts far beyond traditional audiences. What the entertainment industry hasn’t fully grasped yet is the incredible opportunity to serve a passionate, underserved audience hungry for stories that matter.
That’s our secret sauce—combining top-tier production quality with stories rooted deeply in faith and adventure. I truly believe faith-based films can be spiritually profound and commercially powerful at the same time.
Look at the success of films like I Can Only Imagine or The Passion of the Christ, they prove there’s a vast and eager audience for these stories. My mission is to create films that stand toe-to-toe with any mainstream blockbuster in terms of quality and excitement, while never compromising the God-given message that drives me.
Q: What’s next for Terry Montgomery?
Terry Montgomery: I’m incredibly excited about several new projects in development that will push the boundaries of faith-based storytelling, bigger in scope, deeper in heart, and broader in reach. Beyond films, I’m also exploring building a production franchise, developing merchandise, creating original music, and launching traveling praise and worship concerts. It’s all about creating a full experience that connects with people on many levels and brings faith to life in fresh, vibrant ways.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring filmmakers who want to follow a similar path?
Terry Montgomery: Stay true to your voice, be patient with the process, and don’t compromise your values for a quick win. Build relationships, study the craft, and trust that your unique perspective is needed. And above all, stay connected to your faith, because it will sustain you when challenges come.
