As the Director of Community Engagement at People Incorporated of Virginia, Barber’s days are often filled with travel, meetings, and a steady stream of community centered initiatives.
While the work can carry significant responsibility, moments of reflection reveal the deeper meaning behind every effort.
While the work carries significant responsibility, moments of reflection continue to reveal the deeper meaning behind every effort.
One such moment came during the ribbon cutting ceremony for Lightfoot Apartments, a newly unveiled 60-unit affordable housing community in Culpeper.
Standing alongside organizational leadership, including President Bryan Phipps of People Incorporated of Virginia, and Abigail Spanberger, alongside Virginia Governor leadership representation, as well as a host of dedicated community leaders, Barber experienced firsthand the profound impact of collaborative work.
In that moment, everything came into clear focus. It was a reminder of the tangible difference that can be made when people come together with a shared purpose.
The mission of People Incorporated of Virginia is rooted in service, providing opportunities for economically disadvantaged individuals and families to reach their full potential through affordable housing, community development, and financial services.
Their broader vision centers on building stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
The opening of Lightfoot Apartments stands as a living example of that mission in action. It represents more than housing; it reflects hope, stability, and a renewed sense of opportunity for families in Culpeper and beyond.
For Barber, the experience was both humbling and affirming, a testament to the importance of community-driven work and the lives it continues to touch.
She shared that she is grateful to be part of this ongoing journey.
As March comes to a close, it leaves behind more than milestones. It leaves a lasting reminder that meaningful change begins with commitment, collaboration, and a shared vision for a better future.
