Soulful vocalist and songwriter Robbie Love is stepping into her own spotlight with the release of her debut EP, Just Robbie, featuring the heartfelt lead single “When Love Comes Around.”

Known for her rich, expressive vocals and connection to classic soul, contemporary R&B, and jazz-infused Neo-soul, Robbie Love introduces audiences to a project that honors her musical foundation while showcasing her own unique artistry.

The EP features four original tracks, “When Love Comes Around,” “Infant Eyes,” “We Believe,” and “Music Mama and Me,” along with a television version of “When Love Comes Around” that expands the song’s visual storytelling experience.

The project features an extraordinary lineup of musicians, including guitarists Juewett Bostick and Gemi Taylor, bassists Welton Gite, Del Atkins, and Harvey Estrada, keyboardist Herman Jackson, drummers Jeff Suttles and Ronnie Kaufman, percussionists Eric McKane and Munyungo, soprano saxophonists Azar Lawrence and Gary Bartz, background vocalist Kari Taylor, and lead vocal production and arrangements by Laythan Armon.

Beyond the music, Just Robbie introduces an expanded creative experience that combines storytelling, technology, and visual content to bring listeners closer to the inspiration behind each song.

Robbie Love recently discussed the inspiration behind Just Robbie, her family legacy, and the innovative ways she is connecting with audiences through music and entertainment.

Q: Your new EP is titled Just Robbie. What does this project represent for you as an artist?

Robbie Love: Just Robbie represents me stepping forward and allowing people to experience my voice, my story, and my artistry. Music has always been a part of my DNA. I grew up surrounded by incredible music, and my mother, Mary Love, was such an important influence in my life. This project honors where I come from, but it also introduces who I am as an artist today. It is a very personal body of work that reflects my love for soul, R&B, jazz, and meaningful storytelling.

Q: The lead single, “When Love Comes Around,” carries a powerful message about love, gratitude, and finding peace. What inspired the song?

Robbie Love: “When Love Comes Around” is about recognizing those special moments when love enters your life and changes your perspective. It is about appreciation, joy, and being grateful for the people and experiences that bring light into your world. I wanted the song to feel uplifting and remind listeners that love can bring peace, happiness, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Q: This project introduces you as a songwriter. How important was it for you to share your own stories through your music?

Robbie Love: It was very important. As a singer, you are interpreting the words and emotions of a song, but as a songwriter, you are sharing a piece of yourself. “When Love Comes Around” allowed me to express something that is personal and universal at the same time. I want listeners to connect with the emotion behind the music and find their own meaning in the songs.

Q: Your mother, Mary Love, was a respected figure in the Los Angeles R&B scene. How has her legacy influenced your journey?

Robbie Love: My mother’s legacy is a blessing and a source of inspiration. She was a powerful vocalist who made an impact during an important era of R&B and soul music. Growing up with that foundation gave me a deep appreciation for musicianship, authenticity, and connecting with an audience. I carry that legacy with pride, but I also want to create my own path and allow people to know Robbie Love.

Q: The EP features legendary musicians, including Azar Lawrence and Gary Bartz. What was it like working with such accomplished artists?

Robbie Love: It’s absolutely amazing to have these two incredible icons on the EP. Having musicians of their caliber contributing to this project elevated the music in such a special way. Their artistry, passion, and understanding of soul and jazz brought another level of depth to the recordings. Every musician involved helped create an authentic musical experience.

Q: Each song on Just Robbie will have its own video liner notes. What inspired the idea of creating this additional content around the music?

Robbie Love: We wanted to give listeners a deeper connection to the music and the stories behind each song. Traditionally, fans connected with albums through vinyl liner notes, where they could read about the songs, musicians, and creative process. The video liner notes bring that same spirit into today’s digital world. They allow audiences to experience the inspiration behind the music in a way that feels personal, interactive, and easy to share.

Q: The video liner notes are being created in different formats for audiences, including mobile and widescreen versions. Why was it important to create content that meets listeners where they are today?

Robbie Love: Today, people experience music through many different platforms, especially their phones and digital devices. We wanted to create content that allows people to engage with the project wherever they are. Each video adds another layer to the listening experience and gives fans a chance to explore the musicianship, creativity, and stories behind the songs.

Q: The project also includes the short film “GET IN THE CAR.” What can you share about that creative piece and how it connects to Just Robbie?

Robbie Love: “GET IN THE CAR” is a fun and creative way to introduce people to the world behind this project. It highlights some of the challenges independent artists face when trying to break through in a competitive industry, but it does so with humor, imagination, and entertainment. The film allows us to tell another part of the story while engaging audiences in a different way.

Q: How important is technology in helping independent artists connect with audiences today?

Robbie Love: Technology has completely changed how artists share their music and connect with fans. Computers and smartphones have become part of the entertainment experience, and we wanted to use those tools creatively. Music is still the heart of everything, but technology allows us to expand the story, invite people into the process, and create more meaningful connections.

Q: You reimagined Wayne Shorter’s classic “Infant Eyes.” Why was that song important to include on this project?

Robbie Love: “Infant Eyes” represents the connection between jazz, soul, and emotion. It is such a beautiful composition, and we wanted to honor the spirit of the original while bringing our own interpretation to it. Having Azar Lawrence be part of that recording made it even more meaningful. What really resonates with me is how the lyrical content organically connects with my musical roots, and also how it honors my Mother’s eternal love for her children, and for the gift of musical expression. It was very important to her that we carry on the legacy that she created for us. Music has always been our life.

Q: What do you hope listeners take away from Just Robbie?

Robbie Love: I hope they feel something real. I hope the music brings them joy, comfort, inspiration, and connection. At the heart of this project is love, family, and the belief that music can bring people together. I want listeners to hear my heart in every song.

Q: What’s next for Robbie Love?

Robbie Love: I am excited to continue sharing this music and connecting with audiences. This is just the beginning. I look forward to more performances, more storytelling, and continuing to create music that reflects who I am.
